Australian Venture

What Is A Venture?

A Venture is a 12 day camp organised once every 3 years by Scouts Australia for 14 to 17 year old Venturer Scouts. The next Australian Venture will be held in Tasmania from 3 to 14 January 2012. As part of the camp you will choose a 4 day Expedition and you will stay with this Expedition Unit throughout the whole 12 days providing you with an excellent opportunity to meet people your own age from Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

Who Can Go from the UK?

You must be a member of either the Scout Association or Girl Guiding UK and have been born between 3 January 1994 and 3 January 1998 to attend. Leaders are also welcome to attend as either Assistant Line Leaders, working with Expedition Units or as general Staff and again must be members of either the Scout Association or Girl Guiding UK.

All Adults must have a current CRB clearance from the UK Scout Association and must be willing to act in any role in which the Contingent Leaders consider you are most suited. All Adults must be willing to assist the UK Contingent Team as and when required.

UK Contingent

The UK Scout Association does not send an official contingent to Australian Venture because it isn’t a designated ‘WOSM Event’

The Venture is organised by the Scouts Australia Regional team of the host state, in 2012 Tasmania, and they ask that we act as a single UK Contingent rather than booking in as individuals or Explorer Scout Units. At past Ventures we have therefore formed an ‘unofficial’ UK Contingent and this will again be the case in 2012.

Contingent Contacts

The unofficial UK Contingent has 2 joint leaders, both of whom undertook this role at the 2009 Australian Venture in Perth. In addition Ian attended the 2003 and 2006 Ventures while Chris was at the 2000 and 2006 Ventures.

Ian Crossley (ian@av-uk.org.uk) will be the main contact for anyone flying out of Manchester, Newcastle, Scotland or the North of England.

Chris Hayes (chris@av-uk.org.uk) will be the main contact for anyone flying out of London, Birmingham, Wales, Ireland or the South of England.

All updates and information will be sent to the Contingent members via e-mail only.
