Syd’s Escape Diary 17.01.2009

The final day in Oz started with investitures for Charlotte, James, Jasmine and Jess at the Roundhouse followed by shopping and lunch in Freo.

In the afternoon many of the unit did the Fremantle Prison tour – visiting cells and the gallows amongst other places of the prison that closed in 1991.

Then off to the airport for the flight home via Dubai where the unit will say goodbye to Alverton, who fly onto Manchester.

We’ve left Fairbridge for the final time with a few tearful farewells to new found friends.

Arrived back at Fremantle YHA at lunchtime and 3 choices for afternoon activities – the train into Perth, free time in Freo or simply catch up on some sleep at YHA.

Syd’s Escape Diary 04.01.2009

We’ve arrived at Fairbridge Village and Escape has begun.

The coach picked us up in Freo at 08.30 and arrived at the site a little after an hour later.

The check in process was very speedy and hardly any time was taken before we all had our welcome pack – ID tag, baseball cap, polo shirt, Escape scarf and platypus water backpack. The tents and roll mats were also all waiting for us and soon everyone was finding where their expedition unit was sited on the camping oval and pitching their tents.

The other contingents started to arrive and soon each unit member started to meet all of their expedition units.

Lunch was a buffet – meat, cheese & salad – and Syd saw Jess, Helen & Martin enjoying lunch with their new found Aussie friends.

Many of the UK unit then spent an hour or so cooling off in the onsite swimming pool – no need to tell you that it’s hot and sunny with not a single cloud in the sky.

This afternoon sees a series of meetings – line leaders at 15.15, expedition units at 16.00 and contingent leaders at 18.00 ahead of this evening’s opening ceremony / pool party.

The contingent HQ will no doubt be a popular place to visit as it’s air conned .

All of the expeditions depart tomorrow morning – Chris and Ian will be visiting some of these – and then the Explorers return to Fairbridge on Friday.

We’ve asked them all to call into the HQ and see if any messages etc and will pass these on if / when we see them.
